The 25 euro coin, created by Loredana Pancotto, depicts in the foreground, on the reverse, the portrait of the writer's bust flanked by two symbolic images of the Betrothed: the "branch" of Lake Como, the description of which opens precisely the novel The Betrothed, and further down the two protagonists: Renzo Tramaglino and Lucia Mondella, depicted by the artist in a chaste gesture of affection that seems to encompass all the trouble that precedes, in seventeenth-century Milan and Lombardy, the culmination of their love
