The Atlantic Forest is a set of eight separate protected areas located on both sides of the Brazilian states of Bahia and Espírito Santo, which are developed on a total area of about 112,000 hectares.

The reserves are mainly composed of Mata Atlantica, a typical Brazilian coastal rainforest, rich in biodiversity.

Inside the reserves are numerous animal and plant species, many of which are endemic to the region.

In 1999, the Atlantic Forest of the discovery costs have been included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
